There is currently no release date for State of Decay 3. Head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty, said more information about the games featured in the showcase would be released at future events, some later this year. So it’s possible we’ll know more about a release date or release window before the end of 2020.
It’s also possible we’ll know more about State of Decay 3 in general by the end of the year. It appears that the game is still early in development. Undead Labs, SoD 3’s developer, announced through the State of Decay 2 Twitter account that the new game “is in active development.”
Other than that, there really isn’t much for fans to go on right now. The footage below doesn’t show any gameplay, instead focusing on a short cinematic in which a lone survivor fights to stay alive.
The original State of Decay launched back in 2013, while its sequel, State of Decay 2, released in 2018. Though we spoke highly of the original, the sequel left us a bit wanting, lamenting its bugs and repetitiveness.
However, that didn’t stop millions of players from jumping into the game at release, growing the playerbase to some 5 million as of August 2019.
