How to program your Xfinity remote with the device itself?
Make sure you’re in learning mode. Hold down both Menu and Power buttons until your remote starts beeping. Your remote will blink twice after you hold down the Menu. How to program your Xfinity remote without the device?
This is possible and it’s quite easy actually. Here is how you do it; you need 2 identical remote controls in your possession, go ahead and pick them up right now. Point your first remote at your second remote and press one of its buttons, observe that now there are 2 red lights, not just 1. You know what to do next, press a button on your second remote while pointing at the first one – bingo!
You have just programmed a device without being physically in front of it. This can be very useful if you want to check whether all devices are working as they should or for instance if your mom needs help with her TV set or something along those lines. Try it out yourself and tell us about your results! Have fun with that!
How to reset a lost Comcast Remote?
Before you can program your remote, you must reset it. To do so, hold down both the CBL and VCR buttons for five seconds until you see all of your remotes lights flash twice. Once that’s done, return to these instructions. The first step is determining which type of remote you have: If it’s a Comcast or Xfinity TV remote, choose Type 1. If it’s any other type of remote with On Demand/X1 technology on it—like Dish Network or DirecTV—choose Type 2 instead. There are only two basic steps to programming your remote: Find the code by searching through pages 8–9 of your user manual (it’s typically between 30 and 60) Press Enter on your device to confirm and enter in all four numbers Example Setup Process (Type 1):
Follow these steps for details about how to program an Xfinity or Comcast remote if you just lost yours and don’t know how to do it.
Steps For Type 2 Remotes: While most modern devices don’t need a code like older ones did, it’s always worth searching through pages 8–9 of your user manual just in case one does come up in search results.
You’ll also want to make sure you’re using page 9 of your manual for all listings since older models sometimes use different manuals than newer ones. Further Reading: You can find step-by-step guides from sites like WikiHow here and here.
Both of those will tell you what codes to try if something isn’t working, although I found their recommendations weren’t quite as accurate when it came to finding a Type 2 code. Make sure they’re updated before following them!
What if none of this works?

If you still can’t figure out your issue, take a look online for some answers—there are tons of places with information about nearly every issue imaginable (including ours!). You may even find that someone else has had your same problem before (and solved it) and have posted their solution online!
