Stop and Shop is a store that prioritizes the interest of its customers and as such it has a customer-friendly refund policy. This policy allows you to return a damaged or substandard item and you will get a full refund. It is also possible to return items without receipts. 

The Basics of the Stop & Shop Return Policy

If for one reason or the other you are not pleased with the products you purchased, you can file a complaint and get a refund. If you wish to return perishable goods, you can do so at any of their stores irrespective of the particular location you got them from. Stop and shop have over 400 stores across Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut. Customers are free to return almost anything and demand a store credit or a full refund within one month of the original purchase. 

To carry out these refund processes effectively, the Stop & Shop has set in place a hassle-free return policy. This policy is put in place to ensure that customers’ rights are protected and that the process of refund will be a smooth one even without your payment receipt. The return policy also states that if you are going to return a product, you must do so before the product expires. You can return damaged goods without a receipt but in this case, you won’t be getting full payment. You are allowed 30 days after purchases to make a return if not, you might as well forget about it. Stop and shop are always open to receiving any returned products, doesn’t matter if it is open or unopened, used or unused. However, gift cards cannot be returned or exchanged for cash. 

Stop & Shop Return Policy Exceptions

Although stop and shop are receptive to customer complaints and are willing to refund money to unsatisfied customers some exceptions are made.

  1. Customers have a period of 48 hours to report any item missing from their delivery but are not marked out of stock. If you fail to return the item within the next 48 hours, you will lose your claim for a full refund.

  2. If an alcoholic beverage is missing from your delivery, the 48-hour does not apply here. All missing alcohol beverages must be reported immediately to the carrier if not, you may lose your claim for a refund. 

How to Return an Item to Stop and Shop?

When you present the item you wish to return with your receipt of payment, Stop and shop will offer you a refund. The process is slightly different for In-store purchases and Online purchases or home delivery.

In-store purchases

To return an item purchased from a physical Stop and Shop store, visit the store and ask the attendant available to initiate the return. If you still have your receipt of payment, you will be refunded via your original means of payment. In a situation where you are no longer in possession of the receipt, you will be given a store credit. Although you might be given a full refund if the cost of the item returned is below $20.

Online and pick-up purchases

Refunds for item purchases online are usually made within 7 days from delivery or pick-up date. This refund is made through the Customer Care unit and you can contact them at 1-800-767-7772. After complaints are laid out, purchases will be verified and then a refund will be made. The Customer Care Unit is open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 7 pm and on Saturdays, 8 am to 5 pm.

Yes, you can return any item you are dissatisfied with including an already opened food. Stop and Shop will offer you a replacement or a refund for damaged perishable food depending on what you want.

At most, you have to return the unwanted item before 28-30 days. If you wait longer than this, you may not be able to get your full refund.
